The hotel was a little dated but the rooms were large, the air con strong and there was a nice pool . While far from the city it is close to the metro. Overall this is good value for money if you are looking for a hotel near the airport.
Elena at the front desk was especially kind, even calling up to the room after we arrived to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The hotel's location can't be beat - it is a short walk to all the major sites and restaurants and we never needed a taxi during our stay. We enjoyed cocktails on the stunning 7th floor rooftop terrace, which is surely one of the best views in Madrid. They accommodated us both as a couple and with a larger group. We loved the charm of the building, its impeccable decor, and most of all the staff who went out of their way to make our stay perfect. We highly recommend The Principal and will definitely stay again on our next visit to beautiful Madrid.

The restaurant's products are not bad, but the price is high in this area. I forgot to take pictures in the room, but the safe is very useful. You can swipe your own card as the key. The rooftop pool was an amazing amenity that we great use of during our stay. Staff members Jamie, Martin and Iva were amazing and made my first trip to Madrid one to remember. I will definitely be coming back and staying at the Axel. Apart from being on the shopping street, this hotel doesn't have many advantages.
